Discussion:
Gothic 2 Gold: in need of a Master Sword

I'm playing an archery-oriented player in Gothic 2 Gold at the moment,
but I would like to have a capable melee weapon that is based on
Dexterity rather than Strength. The FAQ at Gamespot's GameFAQs
mentions that Martin the paladin weapons dealer down in the port
district sells one, but it appears that he has equipped the weapon
since I did not purchase it the first time I browsed his inventory!
Where else or how else might I acquire this weapon? Since the majority
of my skill points go towards DEX, would pickpocketing allow me to nab
the weapon he has equipped? I'd rather not have to kill him or wait
out the entire game for the next best DEX-sword "Betty". Help me!

There is a free master epee in the oldest tower of Xardas, in the mine
valley. I chose to retrieve it, as my current character is dex based,
too, but it was a hard ride there.

I recommend using a shape shifting spell and running past all the
monsters and enemies which would else kill you at sight, then stand
outside the library, where the weapon is lying in a rack IIRC, and cast
an area spell (scroll), preferably a fire rain. The seekers inside
don't appear to be fireproof, and at least two of them should be dead
instantly. Take out the other ones (ranged weapon) and get the epee.

Having it will make it a lot easier for you to confront enemies like
Bullco.

I'm not yet to Xardas' old tower, but thank you so much for the advice!
I was worried I had made a fatal mistake in my gameplan but it appears
okay now.

Or do it like I did: consider this a bug, and retrieve the weapon via
the console.

Yup, they tend to do that... Rather annoying :-) Anyway, a weapon almost
as good can be found near the big farm in the troll valley. If you don't
need the thieves guild, you can find them and tell the guards, they'll
kill them for you - and you'll get two of the good weapons...

Which one do you mean? For me, the 'big farm' is Onar's, while the
troll valley is adjacent to the bandits hideout on the rock with the
toer on it, and that is way south of onar's.

Also. please don't forget that it has to be sufficient for a dex
oriented character (like my bow/crossbow mercenary)

Ah, Information. A property, too valuable these days, to give it away,
just so, at no cost.

No, that's rather near of onars... From where this boy herds the sheeps
you can almost jump right into the valley :-) It's very near, I think...

What do you mean? A little after the beginning (esp. when reaching 50
Dex) the rapier can be a nice weapon, until you reach Dex 60 and find
one of those "Master epee"s (however it's called in the english version).

That's the one with the four wolf pups, right? I remember to have found
a bow there, but not much more of interest.

Or did you mean the other one, that is guarded by several skeletons? I
didn't notice a weapon there either.

Not exactly... The four wolf pups are near the shepard, correct, but the
valley with the two trolls is not exactly there (just near). In this
valley, there's a lumberjack (who wants something to eat). If you stand
at the beginning of the path that leads to the big bandit camp with the
two towers, the valley lies directly there...

Go to the two trolls - you don't even need to kill them, just run - and
you'll find a rapier (Dex 50/Damage 100 in the Addon) and some other
little things (including a bow, iirc).

I don't think it's easy to miss, the two trolls are standing directly in
front of the things :-)

You sure? I think Martin, for example, is part of the NotR Addon...
